Real Money by Jim Cramer

Real Money was written in 2005 by Mad Money’s Jim Cramer. Now there are not that many books where the author will detail how an investor can make money in the stock market.  The book is well written and is spread over ten chapters.  Mr. Cramer does an excellent job of explaining what moves a stock and how an everyday investor can play with the big boys of the markets.  As this book was written prior to the 2008 and 2009 financial meltdown I wanted to go back and re-read Mr. Cramer’s series of books.  While the book is basically a roadmap on how one can invest and make money.  If you are like so many of us and plan on doing your own portfolio management Mr. Cramer goes into some good detail on how to invest your own money.  As I stated two weeks ago I would be going through this series of books and let you know if they are still relevant.  In Real Money I would say that what Mr. Cramer wrote prior to 2005 is still very much valid today.  I would re-visit the portion where he gives advice on what kind of companies you should be investing in.  Here I think Mr. Cramer shows that this book was indeed written prior to the 2008 and 2009 bear markets. I would have agreed with Mr. Cramer prior to the financial crisis but now I must admit that it may not be a wise move to have a substantial position in a financial institution such as a bank.  If you want to own a financial I would move more towards the credit card companies and look at American Express, Visa, Mastercard, or Discover.

Real Money for the most part is just as relevant today as it was when Mr. Cramer introduced us to his brand of money management. Come back and in two weeks I will have a brief blog on Mad Money, the book not the CNBC show.  If you are interested in any of these books I have them listed under the recommended reading tab.  If you want a more in-depth review of this book please sign up for my email  newsletter and you will have access to the full review.
